(Los Angeles, CA) The YWCA Greater Los Angeles (YWCA GLA) is proud to honor supermodel and international business mogul Kathy Ireland with the 2011 Phenomenal Woman of the Year Award.
The award will be presented at the 2011 Phenomenal Woman Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 11:30am – 2pm at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza. The event theme is “Saluting Women who are Instruments of Change”.
Faye Washington, CEO of the YWCA GLA said, "YWCA Greater Los Angeles is thrilled to honor Kathy Ireland with the 2011 Phenomenal Woman of the Year Award. Her personal and professional contributions have moved the YWCA GLA's mission of "eliminating racism, empowering women" forward for women, children and girls all over the globe. Kathy is an iconic figure who leads by example, is a powerful instrument of change and we are honored to celebrate her stellar achievements."
Ireland, a former supermodel who graced the covers of Sports Illustrated, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar and more, now heads up Kathy Ireland Worldwide, a $1.4 billion global design empire with the mission of "finding solutions for families, especially busy moms".
An author, wife, mother, Sunday school teacher and humanitarian, Ireland works with the Make a Wish Foundation for terminally ill children and is the creator of the Dream Foundation, the first and only national wish-granting organization for terminally ill adults.
The Phenomenal Woman Awards fundraiser draws Southern California’s top women executives and leaders to salute their accomplishments before an audience of the Los Angeles business community. Partial proceeds from the event will benefit the YWCA GLA Job Corps program and downtown Urban Campus. The YWCA GLA Job Corps program serves underprivileged youth ages 16 – 24 and offers housing, vocational training and support to ensure their self-sufficiency upon program completion.
