Zenterio releases the latest version of their independent operating system, Zenterio OS 15.2 in conjunction with their participation at IBC 2015.

Zenterio OS 15.2 comes with a number of new features and improvements that will help operators to deploy interactive TV services both faster, and cheaper

Improved OTT support
The support for OTT services and technologies has been improved thanks to the integration of Microsoft PlayReady 3.0, increased support for HLS version 4 and Smooth Streaming. This enables Operators to quickly add OTT services to their offering in a way that allows for wider compatibility with 3rdparty content providers by basing the integration on standard technologies.

Enhanced Media Player Functionality
Media player functionalities have been improved by adding support for new media containers, codecs and subtitle formats. This enables the TV operators to use the set-top boxes as flexible media players, increasing their stickiness for the end users and reducing the probability that they turn to other devices in the home to consume personal video content.

One-way advertisement support
Support for one-way advertising has also been added. In addition to the advanced advertising capabilities already available to users of the Zenterio OS, display and interactive advertising campaigns can now be created and managed using the AdScribe Advertising Management System but delivered via a data carousel. This enables TV operators using one-way, broadcast-only set-top boxes without an IP return channel to also create and monetize new revenue streams through advertising.

Improved Lua application framework.
TV operators need the flexibility to develop and deploy interactive apps at a much faster pace than set-top box software releases. Zenterio OS 15.2 includes an enhanced Lua application framework to address exactly this. Lua is a lightweight scripting engine, offering access to Zenterio OS API and enabling the operator to deploy interactive applications like games, video apps, information apps, advertisement or promotional apps, fully independent from STB model and SoC.

Improved UI Framework and Content Discovery
Zenterio OS 15.2 comes with a new version of its HTML5-based UI framework and a multiscreen user Interface, JETUI.

The architecture has been streamlined and the integration with the browser has been optimized, to provide  easier customization through APIs, faster navigation and better overall performance. The JETUI design has been focused even more around video, to make sure that the end user can always be engaged by video content and easily find what is desired.

Content discovery is also easier than ever thanks to a new personalized interface that includes recommendation views, integrated with Viaccess-Orca’s Voyage – TV Everywhere solution, that include COMPASS, a content personalization and recommendation platform. Zenterio OS now also support XRoadMedia’s Ncanto.

JETUI is also integrated with the Amdocs IPTV backend.

TV personalization is brought to the next level with the introduction of the JETUI Kids’ mode, a special UI profiling optimized for kids to allow them to access the content they love in an easy and intuitive way.

JETUI and the new HTML5 framework both fully support 2ndscreen devices like smartphones and tablets, and the new JETUI for iPad includes a number of improvements, making it easier to use in combination with the main TV screen to discover, selection and consumption of video content.

HbbTV
Last but not least, 15.2 includes full support for broadcast-based applications, allowing TV operators to take full advantage of HbbTV even in non-connected environments.

With all these new and improved features, combined with the well-known stability and vast hardware support it provides, Zenterio OS enables the operator to quickly deploy interactive TV services and upgrade their offering in a phased approach. Zenterio OS can harmonize the complete range of set-top boxes from entry level to high-end, including already deployed legacy boxes.
