A new module is now available for topology creation within the electrical CAD software suite, E³.series.

August 18, 2011 – Munich, Germany and Westford, MA, USA – Zuken today announced a new module for topology creation within the electrical CAD software suite, E³.series. First phase electrical planning is not traditionally performed in the same software environment as schematic, harness, fluid and panel design, but that has changed with E³.topology. This new module for the early planning and design phase allows engineers to map out the functions and topology of a project. It enables the user to determine the location of functions and components, the number of harnesses and sub-harnesses, and do early calculations of cable length, weight and cost. This is most beneficial for products where development time pressures and early calculations are essential such as automotive, aerospace, railway industries.

”We have had requests for this functionality from many of our customers,” said Joe Frank, head of Zuken’s E³ business unit. “This product has wide ranging benefits for our customers in both the transportation and machinery industries. With E3.topology, they will be able to design their products with more accuracy, reduce the costs of their products, and avoid guesswork and rework.”

The Topology Layout
E³.topology allows engineers to define the functions of an electrical system by laying out functional blocks and defining the connections between them. Many details can be defined during the topology design process – such as the functions themselves, how they connect, where they go in the overall system and how many wire harnesses and sub-harnesses will be needed. This removes the educated guesswork often involved in the first phases of a project. Design information developed at this stage can then be used as the basis for the detailed wiring diagrams.

Beyond Transportation
E³.toplogy enables machinery designers to define the control panel layout and place components (e.g. motors, sensors, emergency stop, etc.) in a draft drawing of the whole machine. In the process of doing so, the designer can estimate the cables and wires needed throughout the machine for optimal performance and interconnectivity.

E³.toplogy is available now, contact your local E³.series representative for more information. Further details can also be found at www.zuken.com/e3topology.

About E3.series:

E³.series is Zuken’s Windows-based modular, scalable and intuitive system for the engineering, design, documentation, and manufacturing of wiring, harnesses, cable assemblies, control panels, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. E³.series’ core object-orientated architecture supports the entire engineering flow from concept to manufacturing and eliminates the need for data transfer between different modules. This reduces errors, increases quality and allows engineering changes to be completed much more effectively. E³.series can also be smoothly integrated with existing applications and processes through standard and customizable, bidirectional programmable interfaces.
