Gloucestershire-based weld overlay cladding and fabrication specialist Arc Energy Resources has been placed in the top six of UK companies in the Manufacturing, Logistics and Transport category of the inaugural St John Ambulance First Aid in the Workplace Awards.

Facing opposition from significantly larger organisations, Arc Energy was one of five runners-up to the eventual winner of the category, Shoreham Port Authority. The other runners-up were DeLaRue, Heinz, JaguarLandRover and Nifco UK.

Commenting for the company, director Rosemary Robinson says: “We are pleased to be the only independent SME in the category; and to have shared the honours with much larger and nationally known organisations who also believe there is nothing more important than keeping their employees safe.”

She adds that the company is also proud that members of its staff have applied their first aid skills in and out of the workplace, with one employee administering first aid to a woman that had collapsed with a diabetic crisis, when no-one else seemed to know what to do.

Arc Energy Resources has nine fully-trained first aiders amongst its 70 employees and, in addition, all employees have an emergency first aid at work qualification and benefit from regular refresher courses. Arc Energy is also a proud supporter of the County Air Ambulance, its nominated charity.

Commenting for St John Ambulance, CEO Sue Killen says: “Organisations like Arc Energy Resources are the reason we set up the St John Ambulance First Aid Awards. We were searching for companies that had gone the extra mile or achieved something special through first aid. The results show they take first aid provision extremely seriously.”
