Fazer Food Services will provide food services to Turku City’s Mäntymäki hospital from October. The contract comprises all food services to the patients, customers and staff at the hospital as well as its café services. Some 1,000 people enjoy the hospital’s food services every day.

Fazer Food Services has won Turku City’s tender and will start as the food services partner of the Mäntymäki hospital on 2 October 2017. Fazer is the food service partner of different municipalities in kindergartens, schools and senior care homes. The new contract widens Fazer Food Services’ operations into a new customer sector in Finland, i.e. food services for patients. Fazer has previously provided food services to the Mänttä hospital and currently operates in the hospital sector in Sweden.

“We are very pleased about the new contract. In a hospital environment, meals can be the highlight of the day and it is of the utmost importance to us that the meals are healthy, nutritionally balanced and tasty. Apart from food, also the environment is important. For example, we plan to develop the personnel restaurant and turn the canteen into a café”, says Jaana Korhola, Managing Director of Fazer Food Services Finland.

“Hospital food is a demanding special field. We find it interesting to be able to partner with a player who has a vision and the courage to try out new ways of working. We have great expectations of this future cooperation and feel good about it”, says Riitta Liuksa, Divisional Director of the Welfare Division of Turku City.

Fazer Food Services sees great opportunities in developing food services in the public sector from the point of view of quality and cost efficiency, and believes that the structural changes in the Finnish municipalities offer them a good chance to take a new look at the patterns of producing food services.

“In the future, we want to work as a partner with the public sector on a considerably wider scale than today, and we are delighted at the confidence we have been shown”, Jaana Korhola goes on to say.

The contract for the food services to be offered the Mäntymäki hospital will come into effect on 2 October 2017. During this summer and autumn, a carefully planned takeover will be completed in close cooperation with all the parties concerned.
