Nexam’s patent application relating to the crosslinker PETA will be approved in Europe
Nexam has received a notice of allowance from the European Patent Office (EPO) stating that it intends to grant Nexam’s European patent application relating to the crosslinker PETA.
PETA, a completely new molecule developed by Nexam, crosslinks polymer chains in different plastics via heat-activation. Examples of plastics include polyimides, nylons and polyesters.
Currently PETA is being evaluated and tested in projects by more than 15 potential customers, whereof several are world-leading in their respective areas. Evaluations are done in e.g.:
- Electronics applications
- Efficiency improvements in production processes for polyimides
- Improvements of thermoplastics temperature resistance and longevity
For a deeper understanding of a possible application within the electronics-/battery area, see US 2012/265385
”We developed the PETA molecule as a large number of our potential customers asked for the type of functionality that the molecule offers. PETA can definitely help many of our customers to develop better and cheaper solutions. We are the first in the world with this product and it is stimulating to see that the patent application we submitted now has resulted in a granted patent.”, says Daniel Röme, Director of Business Development and Innovation
Nexam currently has 28 patent applications within ten patent families.
