Edinburgh University Press, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Edinburgh and the third largest University Press in the UK, has appointed Oxford University Press as its exclusive agent in North & South America and Canada with effect from 1st August 2013. The agreement includes sales, marketing and distribution of all Edinburgh’s print book products and from August 2014 Edinburgh’s ebook business in the Americas and Canada.

Commenting on the new agreement, Timothy Wright, Chief Executive of Edinburgh, said ‘we have had a number of approaches from potential partners in the USA and have decided that Oxford University Press, the world’s largest University Press, is best suited to growing our business in what is a strategically vital market for us. We are investing significantly in our publishing – mirroring Edinburgh University’s objectives of excellence in scholarship, research, and education – and are confident that Oxford’s global reach and marketing strength in both print and digital publishing will drive our business forward. The agreement is a logical extension of our partnership with Oxford through University Press Scholarship Online – the vast and rapidly expanding online research library.’

Niko Pfund, president of Oxford University Press USA commented ‘we are very excited to have a publisher of Edinburgh University Press’s international reputation join our family of distributed presses, Edinburgh and Oxford share a mission: to provide the best scholarship to the widest possible audience. The synergies between our editorial programs are quite striking, and should make our new relationship a mutually beneficial one for years to come.’
