The 2013/2014 fiscal year was positive for the entire Sectra Group. Customer satisfaction increased and we achieved our profitability goal – an operating margin of 15%. Obviously, it feels gratifying that our profitability is high and we can thus continue to generate high returns. But what really makes me proud is the confirmation that Sectra’s employees and products are appreciated by our customers. So highly appreciated, in fact, that our US customers rated Sectra the top provider of Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS).
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO Sectra AB
Sectra has a high proportion of long-term customer contracts, which provides us with stability and enables long-term investments in products and services, which in turn creates added value for customers. Together with our customers and employees, we have what it takes to drive the development of efficient solutions that can improve people’s quality of life, reduce society’s healthcare costs and contribute to a safer society.
Torbjörn Kronander, CEO and President Sectra AB
We experienced a strong trend in earnings and I am pleased to announce that Sectra’s recent product and organizational development has enabled us to achieve our target operating margin of 15%. Through continued business development in our niche areas, we will now prioritize growth while at the same time maintaining our operating margin.
Torbjörn Kronander, CEO and President Sectra AB
During the quarter, we learned that hospitals in the US had given our medical IT system, Sectra PACS, the top ranking in the industry’s foremost customer satisfaction survey, conducted by the analyst company KLAS. We are extremely happy and proud to have been named “Best in KLAS.” Customer satisfaction is also the single most important factor for long-term success and profitability.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
Sectra’s profitability target is an operating margin of 15% and we achieved 12.7% for the nine-month period. For the third consecutive quarter, a positive profit trend has been recorded. Through internal efficiency enhancement and a focus on favorable transactions with strong margins, we are continuing to approach our profitability target.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
The favorable growth of our largest business area – Imaging IT Solutions – was mainly attributable to long-term managed service agreements. Within this business area, the percentage of sales from new managed service agreements financed internally by the Group increased to 9% (3) during the nine-month period. This increasing proportion of internally financed managed service agreements has given Sectra a more stable trend at the Group level, since growth and profits from customer projects are distributed evenly over the duration of the agreements.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“We work purposefully to increase customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and by working in partnership with our customers to continuously develop products and services to enhance healthcare effectiveness. This order comes from a customer who we have collaborated with for more than 15 years and is an excellent example of the type of long-term relationships we build.
Petter Østbye, Manager Sectra’s imaging IT operation in Scandinavia
We believe that our KLAS scores are representative of an ongoing initiative to increase customer satisfaction. By becoming more systematic in seeking client feedback, as well as making special efforts in understanding the needs of our customer’s customer, referring physicians, we have significantly raised the responsiveness of our support services and improved the overall user experience. The products we have released in the past year are also reflective of our customers’ requirements for effectiveness and innovation.
Mikael Anden, President, Sectra North America
We have made progress in reaching the target for our operating margin – Sectra reported an operating margin of more than 12% on a rolling 12-month basis. Our largest business area, Imaging IT Solutions, showed a positive earnings trend and, in Secure Communications, we are focusing on activities that will help to restore the business area’s profit levels. The need for secure communication has become highly evident in recent months due to disclosures of extensive eavesdropping in many countries.

We are working purposefully to increase customer satisfaction by improving our customer service and broadening our product offering with new innovations. It is therefore very satisfying when our efforts to build success for customers are rewarded, such as when we recently received the ‘Best New Radiology Software’ award for Sectra DoseTrack – our new product for radiation dose monitoring – or when we are ranked so highly in customer satisfaction surveys. This is confirmation of the value we deliver and of our customer satisfaction and thus enables us to view the future with confidence.
Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO Sectra AB
We more than doubled our operating profit and all business areas reported higher order bookings. For example, we signed several extensive service agreements with new customers in the UK where we conducted a targeted growth initiative in the preceding fiscal year.
Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO Sectra AB
The US market appears more positive than previously and our North American operations tripled their order bookings compared with the year-earlier period. I am also delighted and proud that US hospitals have ranked Sectra at the very top of the list of suppliers in an independent customer satisfaction survey.
Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO Sectra AB
I foresee favorable opportunities for Sectra’s continued expansion. In our Business Innovation segment for future products and services, we are making continuous progress and our two business areas, Imaging IT Solutions and Secure Communications, have a stable combined underlying cash flow that is helping to finance future profit growth.
Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO Sectra AB
“We have captured more strategic and long-term customer contracts in the UK and Sweden, which contributed to extremely healthy order bookings in the quarter, and also noted a degree of improvement in the US. Sectra posted a strong close to the 2012/2013 fiscal year but we did not match the outstanding earnings posted for the corresponding year-earlier period.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
Sectra’s annual growth in EBIT per share in the past two years has been more than 8%, which is a result of our long-term effort to increase cost-efficiency and at the same time increase the number of products with a higher margin, such as software licenses.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
We will achieve our financial goals through streamlined sales of products and services by which we provide unique values to our customers. We will also develop our offering to Sectra’s large customer base and continue our efforts, with retained or further enhanced quality, to optimize the resources used to deliver and support our systems.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“Increasing the Group’s operating profit is our highest priority; our long-term profitability target is 15%. Through structural changes, focused expansion and internal streamlining, we have increased operating profit from SEK 22 million to SEK 95 million in two years, corresponding to an operating margin of 11%.
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“Our positive earnings trend is primarily the result of our Medical Systems business area reducing the share of hardware sales to the benefit of increased sales of software licenses and services, which contributed to a higher operating margin. Accordingly, on a rolling 12-month basis, we achieved an operating margin of 11.8%.”
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB.
“While we have received several strategic orders in recent months, the fluctuations between the quarters are major. In the preceding fiscal year, we ended the year with an exceptionally strong fourth quarter, but in the current year we expect to close on a more normal note.”
Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB.
“We have decided not to use bodies for dissection in our anatomy classes,” says Professor Torbjörn Anderson, Deputy Program Director, School of Medicine, Örebro University. “We can improve our anatomical teaching with the Sectra Visualization Table. One of the major advantages of Sectra’s technology, in addition to having a better overview of the anatomy, is that we can use our own medical images, which means that students can much more easily see the different variations of the human anatomy. Humans are as different on the inside as on the outside.”
Professor Torbjörn Anderson, Deputy Program Director, School of Medicine, Örebro University
“It is very encouraging to see that our efforts in the UK market have lead to this order. The UK is a highly advanced medical market with strict requirements regarding quality and service, and this order confirms that we are a very good choice for customers with high demands.”
Torbjörn Kronander, CEO and President of Sectra
“We noted an increase in order bookings and improved earnings,” says Torbjörn Kronander, CEO and President of Sectra AB. “The results of our initiatives include higher order bookings in the US as well as in the Middle East and Russia, which are new markets for us.”
Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“Despite the challenging economic climate, our Medical Systems business area reported increased order bookings in the US and Northern Europe during the fourth quarter,”
Jan-Olof Brüer, President and CEO of Sectra AB.
“We increased our profitability during the year through the divestment of the operations for low-dose mammography and began implementing internal efficiency-enhancement measures. We have now completed the divestment of MicroDose and can focus the organization on our core business,”
Jan-Olof Brüer, President and CEO of Sectra AB.
“The investments we have made in MicroDose Mammography previously impacted our cash flow. Following the divestment of this business, we are able to finance the development of our continuing operations in a secure manner, while also having the possibility to give our shareholders a favorable return,”
Jan-Olof Brüer, President and CEO of Sectra AB.
“Our technology has already identified more than 1,000 women at high risk of osteoporosis-related fractures, who have now received help to prevent this condition from developing. Linköping University has purchased our unique visualization table for the training of physicians. Both areas are small as yet, but we bring major benefits for customers and the potential market is large.”
Jan-Olof Brüer, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“The MicroDose transaction has increased our resources for investing in transactions and products that can generate long-term profitable growth.
Jan-Olof Brüer, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“The dominating view of transactions in Europe and North America at present is that many customers have limited budgets that are mainly devoted to maintaining existing systems and equipment,” says Brüer. “The transactions that take place are increasingly linked to the replacement of existing hardware, which has an adverse impact on our operating margin since these transactions have lower margins than new sales of IT systems.”
Jan-Olof Brüer, President and CEO of Sectra AB
“Regular mammography examinations are natural for most women. Now there is an effective method that enables the early identification of osteoporosis at the same time using bone-density measurements. This may mean that many women will avoid unnecessary suffering”
Torbjörn Kronander, President of Sectra’s medical operation
