Sveafastigheter Fund III's property in Birsta Sundsvall, Sweden has been certified under BREEAM, the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.

BREEAM takes a lifecycle approach, using established benchmarks to evaluate a building’s specification, design, construction and use. A certificate ensures sustainable building solutions and healthy work environment for the tenants. Sveafastigheter’s building received the level “Very Good”.

– Our aim is to develop buildings to their full potential. An environmental certificate such as BREEAM is an excellent tool to evaluate and improve a building’s environmental impact. It also serves as a guarantee mark for both tenants and investors, says Erik Widmark. We see that certificates enabling comparison of properties between countries are becoming a prerequisite for international investors.

The property was developed by NCC and acquired by Sveafastigheter Fund III in 2013. It is located in Norrland’s largest retail area, Birsta and the premises are fully let to XXL Sport & Vildmark and Kungsängen.

– A sound work environment with customized lighting, acoustics and air quality increases the well-being, health and productivity of those who work and visit the building, says Veronica Koutny Sochman, Environmental Manager for NCC Property Development. Choosing a BREEAM-certified building from NCC will make tenants and property owners well equipped to meet future requirements for sustainable solutions.

The assessment was done by independent, licensed assessors in line with the international BREEAM Europe Commercial scheme. It covers a range of categories evaluating Management, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Materials, Waste, Water, Land Use, Ecology, Pollution and Innovation.
