Access SupplyChain offers improved MRP scheduling to Doughty Engineering

Doughty Engineering, the world leading manufacturer of rigging, suspension and lifting equipment for the film, TV and theatre industry, is implementing Access SupplyChain and Access Document Management to improve its Materials Resources Planning (MRP) scheduling and bring increased time and efficiency savings to the business.

Stephen Wright, director of Doughty Engineering, said, “We’d outgrown our existing Opera Pegasus solution; we were at the database limit, we had problems scheduling our MRP and were looking for a modern SQL based system.”

After initially looking at Access Dimensions through reseller Enhanced it was recommended Doughty looked at Access SupplyChain, going directly to Access. “With Access SupplyChain we got both a manufacturing and a finance solution as part of the same package – all the other systems we looked at had lightweight account systems bolted on,” continued Stephen.

Stephen also details how the people from Access made a difference, “We spoke to quite a few different software providers, and we really liked the team at Access, they listened to our needs and we could tell that they were a company we could work with.”

Doughty is looking to go live with their new software on 1st February 2014, and is already looking forward to the benefits. “We’re going to see a considerable time-saving on our day-to-day operations, by switching from paper-based manual processes to automated workflows. This means there’ll be less admin to do in the back-office and more accurate time recording downstairs on the shop floor, as we’ll have more control of our operations.

“People on the floor will find their job a lot easier as they can now just touch a screen or swipe a scanner. Overall we’re hoping to see a huge increase in efficiency, and an improvement in our MRP scheduling. We can be more productive and we’ll be able to find the relevant data we need quicker,” concluded Stephen.
