Colchester, UK – 25 March 2013 — Cambridge-based Hills Road Sixth Form College has chosen web-enabled SelectHR from Access Group to support its 350-strong workforce, streamline HR processes and improve reporting. It will replace the college’s in-house systems, cutting down on duplication of effort and reducing costs.

Jill Aberdour, assistant principal of resources for Hills Road Sixth Form College, commented, “With increased demand for management information at Board level, we need to access and analyse our HR information fast. With SelectHR we’ll regain valuable time; dashboards and graphical representations of the data will provide real-time information in a format that makes it easier to digest and aids decision-making.”

The fully-integrated HR solution will enable the college to store employee details in a single system, reducing the administrative burden on the HR function and the ‘paper trail’ thanks to web-based workflows and integration with MS Outlook. “We chose Access over other providers as they have a strong presence in the further education sector and they clearly understood our needs,” said Jill. “That was a really important part of our decision, alongside choosing a system that would be easy to use and configurable.”

SelectHR is used by around 1 in 3 UK colleges. The browser-based solution is accessible not only within the HR team but across the whole organisation. Staff can access and amend their details through self-service; managers are able to view their KPIs through personalised dashboards, view team calendars when authorising leave and manage the appraisal process online eradicating the need for paper appraisal forms.

“SelectHR will refine our recruitment process from application through to hire too. We have a high number of vacancies and applicants at any one time; currently this work is processed manually which takes considerably effort. It can result in inevitable delays in information being transferred between HR and the recruiting manager. With SelectHR we’ll be able to take a more holistic approach, reduce our reliance on external agencies and cut administration overhead in what is a high cost area.”

In phase 2, the college will implement the training and appraisals modules. Jill comments, “Our training details are currently held on a separate system so it’s difficult to produce reports that bring together HR, training and performance data. We want to be able to monitor activities, maximise employee knowledge and abilities, and identify skills gaps as well as recording costs. SelectHR will help us achieve this.”

Hills Road Sixth Form College provides full-time AS and A-level courses, together with an extensive and varied programme of enrichment and extra-curricular activities, for around 1940 16-19 year-old students. It also welcomes around 4000 part-time students onto its Adult Education programmes each year.
