New HR system and payroll bureau service to improve efficiency for Hamleys

Colchester UK, 1 August 2013 – Renowned toy retailer Hamleys has chosen a new integrated HR and payroll bureau solution from long standing partners, Access Group and Action File. The 252-year-old business wanted an integrated system that would automate many of the day-to-day processes to increase the efficiency of its HR and payroll function, and offer the scope for future expansion. The addition of a payroll bureau service offering full integration was also an essential requirement.

Amy Mills, Head of HR for Hamleys, commented, “Our existing system is being retired so we took the opportunity to review the marketplace to see what HR and payroll bureau solutions were out there. We liked what Access and Action File had to offer and that they have enjoyed a solid working relationship over a long period of time. Everyone we met was very approachable and friendly and worked very closely together. High service standards are very important to us.”

For Hamleys a modern system that was easy to use was key for its 30 managers, who will be using the self-service facilities to manage the 500-strong team. “We really liked Access SelectHR for its familiar look and feel and its intuitiveness. The system is very user friendly, making it easy for our store management teams to access and edit information at their convenience. Information is literally just a click or two away.”

Managers will be using on line timesheets from Action File, that are more appropriate to the retail environment and will have direct access to absence management tools within the system. With SelectHR integrating seamlessly with Action-File’s payroll bureau the complete solution will provide better control mechanisms with dashboards and reporting providing a real-time status for the business.

“The HR team will save two days a month as they’ll no longer have to manually update the system with changes. With the majority of processes automated between HR and payroll, this will help the business run more smoothly.”

Working with partners that Hamleys could build up a strong relationship with was also very important. “The Access Group and Action File team was really professional throughout the whole process and took a very balanced approach to solving our problems which was refreshing to see. They were also enthusiastic about working with our brand and helping us to improve what we do.”

Hamleys operates out of nine stores around the UK including London, Cardiff, Glasgow and Dundrum, with more than 23 international franchises. In addition to toys, games, and outdoor products, it also has an events team providing retail theatre, puppet shows, store tours and parties.
