Colchester, UK – 23 April 2013 – US based publisher Candlewick Press is seeing the benefits of a new financial solution from Access Group (Access). Access Dimensions & FocalPoint, which integrates with their Virtusales Biblio3 publishing system, allows Candlewick to view financial data on a title basis, in addition to more traditional operating cost center data views.  In addition, Dimensions and FocalPoint have provided accounting workflow efficiencies and time savings.

Hilary Berkman, chief financial officer at Candlewick Press, said, “We selected Dimensions & FocalPoint because, in addition to covering all the basics, it was the only system that provided us with the flexible tools to handle the unique publishing requirements for manufacturing costing and work-in-process.  Due to the integration with Biblio3 we’re able to attach sales revenues, manufacturing costs, royalty costs, marketing and other spends to specific books. Over time, our new Access software will allow us to build an increasingly rich financial picture of what’s happening with each individual title.”

Candlewick are also benefitting from the automation of previously time consuming manual processes. “We’re seeing a time savings on bank reconciliations, fixed assets where we can post depreciation entries straight from the Dimensions fixed assets module, and an additional savings with US self-assessment tax where entries are done automatically through auto-journals,” continued Hilary.

FocalPoint is now being used to route, review and approve invoices helping with accounts payable bottlenecks and providing digital documentation of multi-stage approvals. “The workload is distributed across the organisation which helps with staff resource, and saves a lot of time on manual processes,” concluded Hilary.

Candlewick’s parent company is Walker Books Ltd of London, with additional offices in Sydney and Auckland.  Access Dimensions & FocalPoint, integrated with Virtusales Biblio3, has been used in Candlewick’s office in the US since December 2012, and is also planned to be used at Walker Books other offices.  Other Access customers in the publishing sector include Bloomsbury Publishing, Quercus Publishing, and DeAgostini.
