This notable achievement confirms that AddSecure’s products not only prevent and reduce crime but also meet rigorous British and European standards for safety and cyber security.

AddSecure, a leading European provider of secure IoT connectivity and end-to-end solutions, today announced that its new range of security alarm systems has achieved Police Preferred Specification, awarded to products that prevent and reduce crime.

The certification is presented by Secured by Design, the official police security initiative that requires rigorous third-party testing. For alarm systems, this means also achieving both the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and the British Standards Institution (BSI) certifications which were awarded to the NGP portfolio earlier this year. AddSecure UK’s NGP portfolio is currently the only alarm signalling products to obtain all three certifications simultaneously.

This triple threat of certifications verifies that the alarm systems meet British and European standards for both safety and cyber security. This includes the EN50136-2-2013 and EN50131-10-2014 which outline that alarm signals must be sent quickly and consistently, as well as the BS EN 54-21 which sets out strict reliability requirements, for example, fault detection. It also recognises AddSecure’s commitment to cyber security, with all systems, associated digital applications and the installer web portal featuring built-in protections to prevent unauthorised access.

The NGP portfolio has also achieved Secure by Design’s Secure Connected Device accreditation, which is specifically for products that help to tackle or prevent cybercrime. By achieving this certification, it demonstrates that AddSecure’s products have met Secured by Design’s IoT standards, which ensures that they not only comply with the Government's Code of Practice for the Internet of Things, but also the 13 provisions of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. This extra accreditation further recognises the cybersecurity preventions that AddSecure have implemented to make their alarm signalling solution safe and secure.

AddSecure UK’s NGP portfolio has been designed to meet all needs, with both fixed IP and Wi-Fi connected options, and single 4G or dual path models, featuring Fixed IP + 4G back up and Dual Radio 4G + 4G. All NGP dual path products have been certified for use in Category P fire systems, those designed to protect property, while the Advanced Extra DP4 and Ultimate models are also suitable for fire systems designed to protect life, Category L.

Alfie Hosker, Secured by Design, said: “I am delighted that AddSecure have become SBD members. I recall the significant role its former iteration, BT Redcare, played in reducing crime and enabling swift responses from keyholders and the police, particularly when analogue phone lines at residential and commercial premises were cut to disable alarm systems during burglaries or robberies.
“During that period, I was a member of a UK Police Service CID burglary/robbery team and witnessed firsthand the considerable advantages this feature provided in allowing us to apprehend offenders during the act of the crime. We also observed the subsequent decline in offenses being committed where these systems were in place.

“Their products have progressed and adapted to include cyber and IoT security measures, which are essential in the realm of IP and beyond as we move into the future. I look forward to a successful association going forward with Nick and his team.”

AddSecure launched its NGP portfolio in the UK last year, alongside a successful collaboration with BT Redcare to migrate their alarm signalling systems to the company’s platform. Already an industry leader in Europe, the product launch and migration cemented the company’s UK presence in the market.

Nicholas Whiting, VP Alarm Signalling at AddSecure UK, said: “To be awarded the Secured by Design certification so quickly after entering a new market and launching the portfolio itself is a massive feat. This is bolstered by the fact it is being granted by such a prestigious institution. When the UK Police Service gives their seal of approval it demonstrates that the range is not just effective but exceptional.
“The Secured by Design certification is recognition of the innovation and care of the team behind these products and should inspire confidence in our installers knowing the products they’ve selected are top of the range. As the only alarm signalling service to obtain the BRE, BSI and Secured by Design certifications at the same time, we’re immensely proud of our achievement.”
