COMMUNITY MUSIC FESTIVAL SET TO ROCK TYNESIDE
An all-new community music festival with a difference is set to rock Tyneside’s Chase Park this summer. Organisers of the Chase Park Life Music Festival including staff and clients, taking place on Saturday 10th July 2010 are aiming to make it the region’s most inclusive open-air entertainment event. An array of musicians, performers and entertainers from a range of backgrounds and abilities, boasting musical styles from folk to samba and from hip-hop to rock will be taking to the stage in Chase Park, Whickham. Alistair McDonald, Service Development Manager from event organisers Whickham Villa, is expecting a good turnout at the free festival, which will run throughout the day from noon until 9pm. Whickham Villa LLP provides three services in Whickham including; rehabilitation and support to people with neurological conditions and other complex needs in Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre, long term nursing care for older people in Millfield House Care Home and innovative social and rehabilitation opportunities for disabled people in the wider community within its Healthclub. He said: “We have created the North East’s most inclusive music festival which will give scores of talented musicians of all ages the chance to perform live in front of open-air audiences. There is an exciting line-up of performers and attractions that will create an excellent atmosphere on the day. “Chase Park Rehabilitation Centre specialises in community rehabilitation for people with neurological conditions, to help people achieve independence and to become part of the community. This gives the optimum outcome both for our clients and for the rest of the community and the festival will be the perfect way to showcase how successful this approach can be. “The Chase Park Life Music Festival will also help demonstrate the important role that music can play in the rehabilitation process, not just as a sensory stimulus but also in the way it can bring people together as a social focus. “We hope this event will prove to be a major draw to people around the region and will grow to be a key element of the summer social calendar in the North East.” As well as the musical performers, the festival will offer guests the chance to visit market stalls, a holistic therapy tent, amusement arcade, craft stalls, face painting and a food stall. Meanwhile in the VIP area, there will be an X-Factor-style competition, chances to have a go at the Byker Soundbeam – a digital recording studio specially devised for people with learning difficulties or physical disabilities – and a sound therapist. Among the confirmed acts are: Samba, the Sage’s Samba band; Calabash, a folk group; a Soundbeam performance from Percy Hedley School; rap artist Mista Breeze; rock bands The Villeins and 1862; and a DJ will be performing throughout the day between acts. The tickets to the event are free and people can register by visiting www.whickamvilla.co.uk The event is being supported by: Neural Pathways; North East Motor Neurone Disease Trust; Multiple Sclerosis Society; Percy Hedley Foundation; Headway; Partners in Specialist Care; Child Brain Injury Trust; Generations Together Gateshead; Sailor Girl Ltd.
