Sexual health problems amongst the UK’s young people must be addressed with carefully-targeted education and development, according to leading national qualification provider NCFE. NCFE is helping raise awareness of sexual health issues with the launch of a new qualification a Level 1 Award in Sexual Health Awareness, alongside the annual Sexual Health Awareness Week, from 13th-17th September. The qualification will raise learners’ awareness of relationship issues, contraception, sexual health and the laws surrounding it, and is suitable for pre-16 learners. Suzanne Cant, Research & Product Development Manager at NCFE, said: “Sexual health education should play a part in the curriculum for all young people. “The latest figures show teenage pregnancy rates are falling, but not falling at a fast enough rate to meet Government targets. Meanwhile, annual diagnoses for sexually-transmitted diseases are already in the hundreds of thousands – and increasing all the time. “Part of the way to tackle these issues is through education and NCFE’s qualification offers a formal way to assess and certificate learners to help ensure the right messages are being delivered and understood.” NCFE is one of the UK’s leading awarding organisations, developing and offering over 400 vocational and academic qualifications in a range of subjects. It works with 1,200 colleges, training providers and schools and prides itself on its ability to deliver high-quality products and excellent customer service.
