Center Valley, PA (October 11, 2013) – Aesculap, Inc., a leader in surgical and closure technologies is pleased to announce its participation at the annual meeting hosted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons,  Plastic Surgery, The Meeting  from October 11-15, 2013 in San Diego, California.

Aesculap’s latest closure technology innovation,  Histoacryl®Flexible; designed to combine flexibility and strength to close and protect wounds.

  • Flexibility Withstands 300 times more bending cycles than Histoacryl without cracking and can be used to close wounds up to 25 cm (1).
  • Strength – Peel Strength is significantly higher (p 0.001) for Histoacryl® Flexible than for Dermabond®(1*).
  • Protection – In vitro studies(2) have shown that Histoacryl Flexible acts as a barrier to microbial penetration as long as the adhesive film remains intact(3).
  • Effective – In vitro tests(2) have shown that Histoacryl Flexible was 100% effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecium, Brevundimonas diminuta and Candida albicans for up to 7 days on innoculated agar plates.

Histoacryl Flexible topical skin adhesive is intended for topical application to hold closed easily approximated skin edges of minimum-tension wounds from clean surgical incisions and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma-induced lacerations.  Histoacryl Flexible may be used in conjunction with, but not in place of, deep dermal sutures.

In addition to Histoacryl Flexible being on display, the Aesculap, Inc. Booth 2236 will also feature:

Monomax® - The monofilament advantage in plastic surgery that provides the longest degradation profile available and excellent wound support during the healing process without the need of a non-absorbable material.

Histoacryl – A sterile liquid topical skin adhesive that is available in clear or blue formulations.
