Nordic lighting design delights shoppers at Mall of Scandinavia
At the grand opening of the Mall of Scandinavia on the 12th of November, tens of thousands of shoppers enjoyed a world class retail experience where lighting design had been given centre stage. This is the culmination of a five year close cooperation between ÅF Lighting and Wingårdh Architects.
“We could not be happier with the results”, says lighting designer Jim Collin at ÅF Lighting “and we have received very positive feedback from our client, Unibail Rodamco.”
ÅF's lighting team has designed the lighting for all public spaces throughout the building, from the functional illumination of the underground parking spaces to the extravagant light features in entrances, piazzas and along walkways.
A spectacular 3D pixel ceiling, consisting of 3200 suspended two metre luminous poles, covers an eighty by eight meter atrium in the Dining Experience area. The changeable installation adds colour and movement, in order to stimulate the senses and entice shoppers to linger and return.
The lighting concept for the Mall of Scandinavia is inspired by the natural qualities of Nordic light and by the Scandinavian design tradition. The lighting design reflects natural daylight changes. Featuring great variety in terms of contrast and colour, it ranges from the powerful to the diffused, from the subtle to the extravagant.
