Aker Kvaerner completes capacity increase for Teijin Twaron ahead of schedule

The project, originally planned for mechanical completion in September 2005, was completed over four months ahead of schedule and within budget, but most important without any lost time incidents. It was executed from Aker Kvaerner's office in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands.

"This very successful project delivery is a direct result of the strong teamwork that has been established between Aker Kvaerner and Teijin Twaron since the Mirai project for which engineering started in 2001. This predictable performance ensures best value for the client and reinforces our leading position as a provider of integrated solutions," said Wim van der Zande, president of AK Process, Aker Kvaerner's European Process business.

"This culture of cooperation has helped to deliver a more efficient project, whilst safeguarding quality and ensuring health, safety and environmental goals remain the top priority," agreed Eiso Alberda van Ekenstein, CEO at Teijin Twaron.

The expansion will result in a 5-10 percent increase of the total production of Twaron® yarn and will enable Teijin Twaron to respond to the increase in demand for its Twaron® fibres.

Aker Kvaerner is also currently providing engineering and construction management services on the significant Twaron expansion project named Niji (Japanese for "rainbow") in Delfzijl, as well as Emmen, which will increase capacity by a further 20 percent.
