Aker Kvaerner secures term maintenance contract and alliance management role at Teesside Power Station

Teesside Power Station is the world's largest privately owned, gas-fired, combined cycle power station. Natural gas is supplied to the facility from the nearby gas processing plant, also operated and managed by px.  Production capacity of the power station is 1875MW, meeting around 4 percent of the electricity demand in England and Wales. The plant also supplies process steam to the adjacent Wilton petrochemical complex.

Mark Leggett, President of AK Engineering Services, said,  "We have worked with px for the last four years, initially providing mechanical maintenance, but this has grown to include fabrication, workshop services and valve overhauls. I am delighted that this long-term relationship has also now led to px placing its trust in us for the management of the alliance during this year's outage."

The alliance comprises five partners: Aker Kvaerner: mechanical work, fabrication, workshop facilities and valve overhaul; Alstom: gas turbines; CISL: scaffold, insulation and painting; EI-WHS: electrical and instrumentation; and px as facility operator.

The 2005 outage will be performed within a management target cost linked to a pain/gain share mechanism against which all alliance partners will be measured. Cliff Sanders, Outage Manager at px said, "This is our first venture within an alliance on Teesside. However, the ties that have been formed with Aker Kvaerner and the other alliance partners over the last four years have enabled us all to get to know each other well. We believe this will form the basis for a successful and fruitful outcome on this project."
