Aker Solutions awarded contract for sulphur burning acid plant in Mexico

21 September 2009 - Aker Solutions has signed a contract with Stingray Copper Inc. for the new 750 million tonnes per day (MTPD) sulphur burning acid plant for the El Pilar Copper Project in Mexico. Aker Solutions will provide full basic engineering and project development support for the new acid plant, sulphur receiving, and associated power generation complex. 


The work will be executed by multiple Aker Solutions' operations in Vancouver, Canada, and Tucson and Houston, US, using its integrated suite of IT and engineering tools and systems.  The basic engineering will be completed by the end of the year, and execution of the project is scheduled for next year.


Stingray Copper Inc. is a copper exploration and development company with its activities focused at the El Pilar copper project in Sonora, Mexico. Stingray is a Canadian, federally incorporated company that operates in Mexico via two wholly-owned Mexican subsidiaries, Minera Stingray S.A. de C.V. ("Minera Stingray") and Recursos Stingray de Cobre S.A. de C.V. ("Stingray de Cobre"). The Corporation has its head office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and has exploration offices in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico and Tucson, Arizona, US.


The Aker Solutions contract party is Aker Chemetics, a division of Aker Solutions Canada Inc.
