Hersvik appointed as new CEO of Det norske

Karl Johnny Hersvik has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Det norske oljeselskap ASA. Mr. Hersvik comes from the position as Senior Vice President of Statoil’s Research and Development division in Trondheim. Mr. Hersvik will take up the position as CEO of the company effective from 1 May 2014.

Mr. Hersvik says that he is looking forward to head a company as exciting as Det norske; a company that has developed from an exploration company to a fully fledged E&P company engaged also in development and operation.

-       Det norske now enters a new phase as operator of the Ivar Aasen development, while the ownership interests in the Johan Sverdrup field constitute the company’s most significant asset. It is both exciting and challenging to contribute to the further development of Det norske as a significant player on the Norwegian shelf.

The Chairman of Det norske, Sverre Skogen, is very pleased with the appointment of Karl Johnny Hersvik as the new CEO of the company.

-       Det norske will be strengthened by a young and dynamic chief executive with extensive professional experience. We are confident that he is the right person to take the company further in an exciting phase.

Sverre Skogen will continue as working chairman, and Øyvind Bratsberg as general manager, until Karl Johnny Hersvik assumes his new position in May next year.

Extensive experience

Karl Johnny Hersvik has been Senior vice president of Statoil’s Research and Development division since January 2011. Since 1998 he has held many professional and management positions in Statoil and Hydro, including chief reservoir engineer and operations manager. Mr. Hersvik has also held several positions in business development, including vice president and project lead for the West Qurna project in Iraq and vice president for Production Technology. Mr. Hersvik holds a Cand Scient degree in Industrial Mathematics from the University of Bergen.

Karl Johnny Hersvik is from Bergen and is 41 years old. He is married and has three children.
