Dual Tracks Cover All the Bases in CLE on Charitable Planning Techniques
PHILADELPHIA, PA March 31, 2014 – American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) is pleased to announce its upcoming program, Charitable Planning Techniques, that will take place on June 12-13 at Revere Hotel in Boston, MA.
The special ‘dual track’ feature of this program enables practitioners of all experience levels to benefit from the comprehensive instruction. The introductory track will give registrants a foundational understanding of this complex area of law, including basic tax rules for charitable gifts, appraisal and substantiation rules, use of retirement plans, and charitable remainder and lead trusts. The more advanced track will offer in-depth coverage of private foundations, donor advised funds, and supporting operating foundations; planning for gifts of exotic assets; and special issues in pledges, reverse mortgages, mortgaged property, and management of grandfathered investment income in charitable remainder trusts.
“With so many estate plans of wealthy clients incorporating charitable provisions, an in-depth knowledge of charitable planning techniques is an essential tool for today’s estate planner,” says planning chair Lawrence P. Katzenstein.
This one-and-a-half day program is crafted for practitioners who advise donors or who advise charities. After the first day of separated learning, both groups combine for the second day for even further analysis of the challenging issues.
Katzenstein notes, “One of the things that makes this program unique is our audience: a mix of lawyers in private practice and both lawyer and non-lawyer planned giving professionals from charitable organizations.”
This diverse audience will enjoy the breadth of expertise offered by the distinguished faculty members of private practitioners, industry professionals, and academics, who hail from different markets across the country. David Ratcliffe, Managing Director of Philanthropic Solutions, U.S. Trust, Bank of America Corporation, of New York, will deliver the luncheon address about advisor approaches and client expectations in philanthropic endeavors.
This course follows one of the most revered texts in the field, Tax Aspects of Charitable Giving (3rd Edition) (The Harvard Manual), co-authored by planning chair Martin Hall, which will be made available for free to all registrants. Also to be offered at no cost to registrants will be planning chair Larry Katzenstein’s Tiger Tables Software.
Charitable Planning Techniques provides more than 11 hours of CLE instruction, including one hour of ethics, and up to 13.5 CPE hours in Taxation. To register or obtain further information, click here.
