GOLDHOFER POWERS PETROBAS OIL RIG MOVE

Specialist heavy haulage trailer manufacturer Goldhofer has helped transport a 650-tonne oil-rig platform for Brazilian petroleum giant Petróleo Brasileiro (Petrobas).
The giant platform was assembled in the Turkish coastal town of Iskenderun, before being driven to the town’s harbour where it was shipped to the oil-rich Gulf of Iskenderun.
Three THP/SL heavy-duty modular trailers were needed to transport the 40 metre long, 25 metre wide and 10 metre high load, which was being moved by Turkish freight-forwarders Ultrans.

The THP/SL series’ superior off-road capability stems from its hydraulic axle compensation of 300mm, twinned with a high bending movement.
In total, 60 axle lines were distributed across the three trailers, which were attached to goosenecks and powered by Volvo tractor units.
Ultrans is a long-standing customer of Goldhofer, owning a total of 52 THP/SL axle lines, a range of vessel bridges and goosenecks, a flatbed, a 100-tonne centre pivot plate and two eight-axle STZ-H8 semi-trailers.
The Gulf of Iskenderun is currently the focus of several international petroleum giants, as rich oil reserves are suspected to lie off the coast. Petrobas’ project is currently in the probing phase, with drilling expected to commence from next year.
