The Red Boot Coalition Launches Fundraiser to Support Cross-Country Journey
Red Boot Ride documentary to showcase the power of listening
On Monday, Molly Barker, founder of The Red Boot Coalition and Girls on the Run International, announced a fundraising campaign to fuel the Red Boot Ride, a cross-country trek to spread the word of the power of listening.
Founded in 2014, The Red Boot Coalition believes listening is the key to understanding. Through community meetings held nationwide, the nonprofit educates about the power of listening without opinion. Honest listening builds trust, which in turn leads to useful solutions.
“After my solo cross-country trip in 2013, I experienced the value of listening and allowing people to truly be heard,” said Barker. “After implementing what I learned with The Red Boot Coalition, I knew another, more purposeful effort to reach Americans from all walks of life was essential. Here we are two years later preparing for an adventure that we hope will build community and understanding.”
A Generosity by Indiegogo campaign to help underwrite an 11-city cross-country trip to share the message of compassionate listening will kick off March 7 and run until April 18.
“We have eight people that will embark on this journey to ask people questions most never get to ask,” said Barker. “While on the journey, award-winning television journalist, Sarah Batista, and a film crew will document the trip, the lives touched and the results of love, kindness and listening in action; resulting in a 11-part documentary series. I am so grateful for the collaboration and shared vision with Sarah.”
The Red Boot Coalition has set a goal of $240,000 to fund the trip and ensuing documentary which will be directed and produced by Batista, founder of Stories to Inspire film production company. The 11-part mini-series will be released online in the 11 weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election
Batista also produced a campaign video to showcase the purpose of these efforts and encourage support from citizens across the country. To view the campaign video, visit https://youtu.be/EDazS8fI7m0.
In 1996, Barker founded Girls on the Run International, an organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, and retired from the nonprofit in 2013. Since its inception, Girls on the Run has grown to more than 220 cities across North America, serving more than 200,000 girls and women each year. Last year, the program reached a milestone with more than one million girls served.
