Assemblin has been awarded a contract for the multidisciplinary installation of electrical, HVAC and sprinkler systems as part of a project in the new district Östra Station in Umeå.

Construction will begin in the spring, providing the growing district with an additional residential building and an office block. The project is a collaboration with NCC and Assemblin’s contract is worth approximately SEK 86 million.

The ongoing development of the Östra Station district will see the expansion of Umeå city centre, with new homes, offices and services built in a central location where sustainability is in focus. The current project will result in the construction of 78 tenant-owner apartments in a nine-story building, as well as a 13,000 square-metre, 11-storey office block, eight floors of which will be timber framed. Designed by the Wingårdhs architectural practice, both buildings will be certified Silver level according to the Sweden Green Building Council. Groundworks have already begun, and final inspection will take place during 2024.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and to be part of the development of Östra Station. Umeå is growing rapidly and it is exciting to contribute to sustainable building for the future,” says Patrik Lundström, branch manager of Assemblin Electrical in Umeå.

The new district is adjacent to the Umeå Östra travel centre, through which tens of thousands of people pass each day on their way to and from the city’s university, university hospital and other major workplaces. The long-term plan is for the district to be further developed to play a prominent role in tomorrow’s sustainable Umeå.
