Augean Add to Green Credentials with Electric Onsite Vehicle Deal
Augean PLC have taken a significant step towards creating a Zero Emission environment at their site in Sandwich, East Kent. The leading hazardous waste management company has embarked on a trial of electric vehicles on the site, with international commercial vehicle manufacturer TATA to ensure all on site environmental impacts are minimised.
Augean already use a range of electric tugs at its facilities across the UK, which generate zero emissions and the latest step being trialled, is to change all vehicles for electric equivalents. The deal with TATA means that on site, the TATA ACE mini truck will be in use from later this month.
The mini truck will offer the same capability as existing site vehicles which handle the movement of personnel, transfer of small volume wastes and other general purpose duties on the site.
The agreement with TATA could extend to look at a fleet option in the medium term, with all sites across the UK looking at ways of significantly reducing their carbon footprints. The use of zero emission vehicles is a major contribution to the overall efforts of the business to minimise its environmental impact, and shows an ongoing commitment to best practice in the sector.
Commenting on the trial with TATA, Edward Pigg, Director – Waste Networks at Augean commented: ‘Augean are continually striving to address our impact on the environment. As a hazardous waste management company, we take seriously the need to reduce the overall impact on the environment, and we employ best practice and value added processes across the business in handling the waste of our customers. The decision to trial electric vehicles on this scale is just another example of how we are committed to innovative methods, to ensure we minimise our emissions. The trial with TATA will show just how effectively we can add to our zero emissions programme by working in partnership, and bringing every possible benefit to our business and ultimately our customers.’
Tony Miles, UK Sales Operations Manager at TATA Motors European Technical Centre commented: ‘We are delighted to be working with Augean PLC on this trial programme. Our TATA ACE Mini Truck is innovative and designed for just the sort of environment in which the company operates. We have all the quality design features of other commercial truck operators, but with a versatile multi purpose vehicle, which ensures zero CO2 emissions. The many benefits of this vehicle to a responsible and forward thinking company like Augean, are obvious. Their commitment to best practice is exemplified through this type of activity.’
Augean PLC will monitor and evaluate the benefits and potential of the TATA vehicles over the trial period with a view to long term commitments to create zero emission sites across the UK.
