Burlington, MA. 28 March 2012: Avid today announced that its 18-year partnership with the University of Salford has been further cemented with the opening and sponsorship of a complete Avid state-of-the-art newsroom at the University’s new MediaCityUK facility.

The newsroom, a key part of the building opened last week by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, includes the latest Avid iNews, Avid NewsCutter and Avid Media Composer software. The University’s investment in this technology, which has been subsidised by Avid, means students will learn and have access to industry-standard professional broadcast news solutions. Through this partnership the University of Salford also becomes a Certified Avid Training Centre, giving students the assurance that their educational programme has been devised in line with stringent industry standards.

“By further extending our partnership with such an innovative technology leader and installing this impressive newsroom in the UK’s newest media hub, are helping students to learn about the technology that the production industry uses; and we are ensuring that we develop the next generation of broadcast talent,” said the University of Salford’s MediaCityUK academic director Dr Andrew Cooper.

The partnership also entails Avid and University of Salford delivering:

-       bespoke lectures and seminars

-       live briefs to get students tackling and solving real industry business problems

-       curriculum advice and support

-       career advice and employability programmes

-       joint development discussions to ensure Avid continues to listen to its customers’ advice on the future development of its solutions.

“Extending our partnership with the University of Salford allows us to gain invaluable feedback from a user base that will be using our solutions for years to come,” said Dan Pell, UK enterprise accounts manager at Avid. “Avid is looking forward to working with UoS students to tap into their ideas and get their feedback on how we can keep evolving and improving our solutions.”

To kick off the official opening celebrations, Avid and the University of Salford hosted a launch to coincide with the University’s open day. Throughout the day students put the newsroom through its paces as they produced their weekly bulletin for the in-house student TV channel, Quays TV, during which Avid’s vp of EMEA sales, Tom Cordiner, was interviewed live.
