Masters in Scoring candidates learn their craft on the industry’s most relied upon professional recording, mixing and notation software

Burlington, MA, October 16, 2014 Avid® (OTC: AVID) today announced that Ireland’s most prestigious creative media educational institution and Avid Learning Partner, Pulse College, has embraced Avid EverywhereTM with the launch of a Masters course in Scoring for Film and Visual Media centered on the Avid Artist Suite. Powered by the Avid MediaCentral Platform, the Suite includes the industry’s most trusted audio production technology solutions, enabling the next generation of composers to create, collaborate and share high-quality, inspiring content.

The Dublin-based academy, which has a long-standing partnership with Avid, found a new home in 2009 at the world-famous Windmill Lane Recording Studios. During the studio’s 36-year history, renowned Studio 1 has hosted dozens of groundbreaking sessions from legendary artists including U2, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga, along with scoring for Hollywood blockbusters such as The Talented Mr. Ripley and The Mask.

In September, the academy launched a new Masters course that complements an outstanding catalogue of further education courses already using Avid solutions. With the Avid Artist Suite at the center of the year-long course, students develop the technical and musical skills necessary to succeed as composers. They record nine ensemble pieces using the suite’s industry-standard Avid Pro Tools® production software and Avid Sibelius® music notation software. The course culminates in a full orchestral performance of their main composition in Windmill Lane’s iconic Studio 1.

“Having Avid solutions as the backbone of our new Masters in Scoring for Film and Visual Media, we can teach composers how to develop inspiring, stimulating and effective scores,” said Tony Perrey, president and co-founder of Pulse College. “The course also enables them to become proficient with the tools and technology that are used by the world’s most respected artists, producers and engineers - and that’s something Pulse College is very passionate about.”

“We’re committed to giving aspiring artists access to the industry-leading professional solutions,” said Tim Hurrell, director of EMEA Audio at Avid. “With the Avid Artist Suite, students at Pulse College are using exactly the same tools that professionals rely on day in, day out, ensuring the next generation of talented composers can excel at their craft.”
