Notes to editors
Key new time-saving tools and capabilities for Media Composer | Software enable editors to:
- Speed up editing with new timeline enhancements
- quickly add and remove trim rollers by shift-clicking anywhere in an adjoining segment
- easily see which tracks have reached their beginning or end points when trimming with new ‘end of trim’ indicators
- choose whether to select or not select filler with segment tools by option-clicking the tool buttons at any time to choose the opposite of their default setting
- copy any segment by dragging and dropping it to a desired location while holding down the shift and option keys
- create and save titles directly to a track in the timeline, as well as a bin
- Toggle clips and tracks on and off in the timeline
- compare variations of a sequence by right clicking on any individual video or audio clip to mute or unmute it from playback
- try out different variations by creating alternative versions of title sequences, visual effects, and other treatments in multiple tracks and then choosing tracks to make active or inactive upon playback
- Create higher quality sound effects and mixes with AAX plug-ins - full access to the latest generation of Avid and third-party audio plug-ins with support for 64-bit AAX plug-ins makes it easy to share plug-ins between Pro Tools® and Media Composer systems for seamless interoperability
- Integrate DPX files directly into workflows - with the new Avid Image Sequencer plug-in, editors can now read and write DPX files directly in Media Composer without the need for transcoding
- Carry out multicam editing in 3D – editors working in stereoscopic 3D can now create groups from stereoscopic clips for multicam editing. Simply add S3D clips to a group and Media Composer displays the metadata for the clip designated as the leading eye in the bin
- Generate multiple audio mixdowns automatically - create different versions of a final project’s audio mix all in one step. With the Multiple Mix window, editors can set up Media Composer to output any combination of stereo, 5.1, 7.1, mono, music and effects, and other mix variations at the click of a button. They can also save settings as a reusable template for quick and easy mix delivery in the future
- Create comprehensive reference files easily with Simplified AAF - mix down all video and effects to a single track—with all ancillary data intact—with Avid’s new Simplified AAF file format, making it easy to create a ‘lightweight’ reference file of a final sequence. This new Export menu option is a better alternative to QuickTime Reference movies, as the format minimizes the number of video and audio tracks, while maintaining ancillary data like captions, for easy multiplatform distribution
- Export MXF OP1a DNxHD and IMX through AMA - get more flexibility and streamline broadcast workflows between Avid and third-party products with the ability to export DNxHD (HD) or IMX (SD) files wrapped as MXF OP1a interleaved files
- Work with the new ARRI AMIRA cameras - view and edit ARRI AMIRA footage directly in Media Composer without transcoding, with any color transformations embedded as a Color Decision List (CDL) and/or 3D Look-up Table (LUT) applied automatically
