Collaboration provides expert music production instruction and credentials to students around the world

Boston, MA, October 29, 2014— Berklee College of Music, the world leader in contemporary music education, has teamed up with Avid® to utilize its industry-leading Pro Tools® | Software as the foundational software for the world's first accredited, non-profit, online music production bachelor degree program.

Berklee Online, the college's award-winning online division, is offering a 120-credit Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in two areas: music production and music business.  The online school has chosen Pro Tools as the foundational software for the program, with required courses including Pro Tools 101, Pro Tools 110, and Mixing and Mastering with Pro Tools.  A high level of collaboration between online music production students is central to this new degree program.

“Music production is not a solitary endeavor,” said Dan Thompson, Berklee’s assistant chair of music production and engineering.  “You’re drawing on the skills and experiences of people around you. In this online degree program, you’ll be working with very committed fellow classmates, and incorporating their experience and knowledge into your work.  The level of interaction and collaboration in the online environment is pretty special.”

Avid shares this focus on online collaboration with Avid Everywhere, which is guiding their development of the most fluid end-to-end, distributed media production environment in the industry.

“We’re proud to be working with the world’s largest independent contemporary music college to nurture the next generation of music professionals,” said Jennifer Smith, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Avid. “Avid Everywhere complements Berklee’s commitment to giving students real-world experience with collaborative workflows on a global scale. With access to industry-standard audio solutions, students acquire the skills they need to thrive in the most demanding production environments.”

While there are clear advantages to studying music production at Berklee's Boston campus, Berklee’s online degree program is 60 percent less expensive, and, like the physical college, the online degrees are accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Berklee Online is accepting applications now for their January 12 semester. For more information, or to apply, visit online.berklee.edu.
