Taiwan has some of the strongest geothermal potential in Asia and a clear ambition to expand renewable energy. Through this collaboration with CPC, we are bringing together complementary expertise to help unlock that potential. We see this as an important step not only for the Tuchang project, but for the long-term growth of Taiwan’s geothermal sector.

Waita No. 2 is important not only because we commissioned a geothermal power plant. It is important because it demonstrates that geothermal development in Japan can be done in a way that creates trust locally, aligns incentives, and becomes repeatable. That changes the conversation from one isolated project to long-term market potential.

Japan does not lack geothermal resources. What has often been missing is a development model that communities feel part of. Waita No. 2 shows that geothermal can be developed together with local communities, not around them.

Fossil fuels are part of how we got here - but they are not part of the future we’re building. The goal of the book is to make that shift understandable for a younger audience, so that it becomes easier to act on.

This book is about helping children understand the system they are inheriting. If we want better decisions in the future, we need better understanding today. That starts with being honest about where we come from - and clear about where we’re going.

With this second book, we wanted to approach the energy conversation in a balanced way. Understanding how we got here is just as important as thinking about where we go next, and that means acknowledging the historical importance of fossil fuel. At the same time, renewable energy, including geothermal with its always-on availability, will be increasingly important in the years ahead. Through storytelling, we can introduce these ideas to new audiences in a way that feels hopeful and is easy to relate to.

The book is written to spark conversations about energy and climate change. While the primary target group is children, the aim is also to ignite dialogues in the wider energy sector as well as with policy makers and investors who strive for positive impact.
