Borehamwood schools contract worth £1.6m over 5 years

School catering company Cucina Restaurants has won a new contract at Hertswood Lower and Upper Schools in Borehamwood Hertfordshire.

The contract will serve 1500 pupils over 2 sites, with an estimated year 1 turnover of £302,401 and a five-year turnover of £1,605,488.

Commenting on the new win, Cucina Director Sam Davies said:

" As with all our previous new contracts, we expect to see a dramatic rise in uptake of school meals at Hertswood Upper and Lower Schools."

Cucina MD Steve Quinn added:

"As a school food company we have no desire to be the biggest on the block. We achieve benchmark standards of excellence by staying small and being highly selective in our pitching, which singles us out somewhat from many of our competitors. We're delighted to have won this contract because these schools already have so much in place to help us implement our stealthy eating approach."

The new contract commences 18 February, 2013.

* Cucina operates 41 school restaurants, each with its own trained chef

* The company's business model - unique in its industry - relies on a doubling or tripling of school meal uptakes in new contracts
