BEWiSynbra finalist at the Recycling Awards
When the finalists at the Swedish Recycling Awards 2020 were presented, BEWiSynbra was one of three nominees in the Innovator of the Year, waste and recycling category.
The Swedish Recycling Awards are organized by the magazine Recycling, The Swedish Recycling Industries' Association and The Swedish Waste Management Association. Its purpose is to further develop, push participation, highlight the best examples and showcase the industry. The first gala was held in 2008 and the next will be in Stockholm, Sweden, in January 2020.
Awards will be presented in a number of categories, one of them being Innovator of the Year, waste and recyling, where BEWiSynbra Circular, which is part of the EPS company BEWiSynbra Group, is one of three finalists. "BEWiSynbra has created the possibility to create a closed loop for expanded polystyrene, EPS, which has not been possible earlier. EPS waste can now be collected, compressed and delivered for extrusion and production of new EPS," says the jury.
- We are both thrilled and proud. We have been working a long time to make both businesses and the general public aware of the advantages of EPS. It protects and insulates, lowers heating costs and reduces food waste. And its 100 per cent recyclable, says Jonas Siljeskär, Deputy CEO at BEWiSynbra Group.
One of BEWiSynbra's initiatives is “Use - ReUse”, which works to raise the awareness on EPS as a recyclable material and to collect and recycle EPS-waste.
- Too much EPS is incinerated or goes to waste, which is totally unnecessary. Not many people know that it is recyclable. The activities of Use - ReUse save the use of natural resources and lowers both CO2-emissions and water use, says Martin Bekken, Managing Director of BEWiSynbra Circular.
BEWiSynbra is one of the leading EPS-producers in northern Europe with an ambitious target to collect and recycle 60,000 tonnes of EPS anually.
- BEWiSynbra recently introduced a new EPS product made 100 per cent from used EPS, so we have really closed the loop. We are determined to lead the change to sustainability in the EPS-business. Being nominated to the Swedish Recycling Awards shows that we are on the right track, says Martin Bekken.
