Social media marketing took a leap forward during a major event which attracted 120 delegates from local SMEs.

Strategic media consultancy Bridge PR & Media Services www.bridgepr.co.uk, based at Electric Wharf, Radford, gave a presentation on the use of social media as a successful marketing tool during the Lloyds TSB “Success for Business” Charter event at the Holiday Inn at Ryton.

Bridge PR & Media Services’ director Denise Taylor explained how businesses can “Make the LEAP” through maximising new media opportunities and incorporating these as part of their marketing goals.

She said: “We were delighted to be invited by Lloyds TSB to present at its Charter event. Many SMEs remain unaware of just how effective social media marketing can be and it was the perfect platform to outline the benefits it can bring to smaller businesses. The event generated a lot of interest, and we’ve already signed up several businesses to our training programmes. At the event we also launched a campaign to name our social media mascot, which is a colourful character animation of a red-eyed tree frog. This created a real buzz and was a fun way to get across a serious message. Many companies joined in the campaign on Twitter and Facebook, as well as on our website, and saw first-hand how effective social media campaigns can be.”

Bridge PR & Media Services has more than 15 years’ experience in the industry and has clients in a range of industry sectors, including aerospace, air cargo, automotive, IT, recruitment and creative & cultural.

Its services include strategic media planning, public relations, online marketing, digital PR, social media marketing, media training and mentoring and clients range from SMEs in Coventry and Warwickshire to major international organisations.

Ms Taylor added: The meteoric rise in popularity of social media has presented businesses of all sizes with a highly cost-effective way of marketing themselves. But it was interesting to see how few Coventry companies are using these tools. There is absolutely no reason why SMEs should miss out through fear of the unknown or through a lack of time. Hopefully, my presentation will have played a part in removing that fear factor for a number of local SMEs and they will be able to approach social media marketing with newfound confidence.”

Joining Ms Taylor on the podium were managers from Lloyds TSB who outlined some of the commercial financial services available to Coventry customers, and Jason Davis from Advanced Carbon Energy Solutions Limited, who spoke about energy use for business.

Mr Davis said: “The turnout for the event was fantastic, and in the current economic climate shows how interested companies are in making savings, as well as reducing their carbon footprint. All the presentations were about how companies could make themselves more successful, and that key message was certainly achieved.”
