Now the London Olympics has started, one local company is already looking to the future by offering budding young athletes help towards reaching their full potential, with the aim of competing at future Olympics.

Local technology experts Curr@nt Ltd is the company behind the programme, which will help Coventry and Warwickshire based athletes as young as nine to develop in their chosen sport.

Director of Currant, Chris Plummer, was inspired to launch this spirited project following the recent success of his budding athlete son. Nine year old Jack who is from Warwickshire is already a successful swimmer and runner.   Jack currently holds titles in cross country and swimming, and is already setting his sights high, but Currant Directors recognised that there are other talented young athletes in the area that may simply not be able to afford to reach their potential because of the financial burden.   “I think it’s important to back athletes from as young as possible.” Chris said “The support needs to come at an earlier age than is currently available in order for our region to have competitors they can be proud of and showcase in Olympic events.  So, we will be offering up to £150 to each successful applicant as a contribution towards the costs associated with achieving the next level in their Olympic sport.

At a time when Olympic fever is gripping the nation, and in particular in Coventry as a host city, businesses like Currant are keen to show their support to these potential future Olympic competitors.   The scheme will make a donation to help towards coaching, travel, competition fees and equipment costs to take them towards the next level in their sport.

Jason Kay, Group Managing Director of Currant also proudly backs the future of these young athletes and said: “I think it’s important to be supporting athletes from as young as possible. With the Olympics being held here in the UK this year I think there is a lot more enthusiasm and drive behind budding British athletes in preparing for future Olympic Games. Jack has been inspiring and we are thrilled to be backing his aspirations, but we would love to help others like him.”

Currant is inviting youngsters to request an applications straight away. They must fit the criteria of being aged between nine and fourteen, come from Coventry or Warwickshire, partake in an Olympic sport, and have a proven ability at County level with potential to develop to national level and beyond.
