Forté combats Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) problems with a brand new product

Leading ‘trade only’ treatment specialists, Forté has launched a new solution to eliminate concerns from the garage trade about contaminated diesel particulate filter (DPF) issues in modern vehicles.

Over the past few months, Forte’s Technical Helpline, which is dedicated to helping vehicle technicians from over 8000 garage customers, has received an increasing number of calls on how to deal with contamination problems with blocked Diesel Particulate Filter traps.

The specific role of the DPF, which is used in most modern vehicles, is to trap larger soot particles within the filter in diesel vehicles, allowing smaller particles and gases to escape. Forte’s technical experts are reporting the DPF problems seem to be more common with vehicles that make frequent city traffic and short trips. The stop/start pattern of driving leads to soot building up in the DPF and the ECU is unable to make the necessary adjustments to the fuel injection timing to increase the exhaust temperature and initiate regeneration.

Phil Dugmore, Technical Manager at Forté, said “Problems can arise when engine contamination prevents clean combustion and subsequently the DPF’s ability to empty or ‘regenerate’ with the filter becoming blocked. Complete replacement of the filter is costly, and can also prove a difficult job by removing the temperature sensors.”

To provide an easy and low cost solution for garages, Forté has launched a new treatment called ‘Forté DPF Cleaner and Regenerator’. It has been specifically formulated to combat the adverse effects that ‘stop/start’ driving conditions have on DPF regeneration. It works by using a catalyst to adhere to the soot particles and allowing the particles to be burnt off at the lower exhaust temperatures brought about by stop and start driving.

“This treatment is far more practical for mechanics to perform and also more economical,” stated Phil Dugmore.

Forté say the DPF problem can arise in any vehicle, irrelevant of the age or manufacturer, and will be highlighted by the illumination of the engine management light or a lack of power when driving.

Forté have previously advised garages to prevent the situation by keeping the combustion process clean in the first place. This can be done with Forté’s ‘Clean and Protect’ solutions and its Advanced Formula Diesel Treatment.

The new treatment is an addition to the company’s range of 22 professional ‘trade-only’ treatments.
