The UK-wide Good Garage Scheme is enjoying ‘Miles Better’ television coverage after its new animated character recently hit the small screen.

The character, named Miles Better by a member of the motoring public, has been featured for the second time this year across the Sky television network, and is scheduled to appear in advert segments during such prime time television shows as CSI, Wimbledon and Sunrise. He continues to promote the Good Garage Scheme as a network of high quality and trustworthy garages and workshops, reminding motorists that being part of the scheme is ‘like having a friend in the know.’ This follows previous successful national television advertising last year which helped increase the number of visitors to the Good Garage Scheme website.

The name Miles Better was chosen following a nationwide competition that asked all Good Garage Scheme members, staff and followers on Facebook and Twitter to come up with an imaginative name. Miles Better was chosen over the likes of Gary Toogood, Carter Fix, and Mike the Mechanic.

The winning name was chosen by Peterborough motorist Heidi Twigg, the wife of the owner of MT Cars Ltd – one of several thousand Good Garage Scheme members. Heidi won a free tank of fuel for her creative efforts.

We have two young children who are always coming up with silly names for people – it’s a bit of a fun family game for us so when we heard about this competition we wanted to enter straight away. We came up with a number of different names but Miles Better was the best out of them all. We were surprised but delighted to win,” she said.

“I think it’s great that the Good Garage Scheme is engaging with the motoring public through initiatives like this one. The free tank of fuel we were awarded was a great prize for us, particularly considering how expensive fuel is becoming these days.”

Since given a name and making his grand television appearances, Miles Better has opened his own Twitter account and Facebook page where he is actively promoting the Good Garage Scheme and offering invaluable motoring tips to the public. He is already becoming a major promotional figure for the Good Garage Scheme.

Anndi Sheppard, Marketing Manager for the Good Garage Scheme said: “We were delighted that so many took part in our competition and were happy with the new name for our television star. We had a number of really creative entries but in the end we settled for Miles Better, as it represents the ethos of our member garages – they all strive to offer miles better service every time you visit.
