K3 highlights key IT issues before they become costly business problems

K3 Managed Services, a UK supplier of cloud delivered ERP solutions, is bringing eight key IT issues to the attention of business owners throughout the country before they become a costly problem.

IT resources, security, business continuity, budgeting, flexibility, reliability, licensing and usage policy are all topics of a brand new guide that K3 posted out to businesses last month. The guide demonstrates where the right IT usage can save time and money for companies and reduce the threat of security breaches. To help Directors digest the information, the guide will be followed up by eight monthly mini-guides which adopt a particular IT issue and expand further, running up until the end of the year.

Directors are not always required to understand the technology their businesses utilise but by recognising IT as a force and harnessing it, they can make substantial business gains. K3’s IT for Business guide aims to help directors understand the questions they need to ask of their IT teams, cutting out the jargon and simplifying the issues around people and processes.

The first monthly mini-guide was sent out shortly after the full programme and concentrated around the key issue of IT security. According to PWC, 92% of firms in 2010 with more than 250 employees recorded a security incident. IT Security is like insurance; it doesn’t reveal its true value until disaster strikes but the consequences and costs of an IT security breach can be too big for it not to be a boardroom issue.

The IT Security guide from K3 urges businesses to be aware from external and internal hostile attacks. Second to outside hacking, internal security breaches are the most prevalent, whether malicious or through simple human error. It reaffirms the need to keep all business passwords secure and accessible only to the people who really need them. Whenever an employee leaves a company that is the time to change your IT passwords.

For many organisations IT has gone from being an attractive advantage to a must-have commodity and K3’s monthly guides aim to prevent businesses from falling behind. IT is often placed at the very top of the strategic agenda, with the MD and senior management teams seen as the key IT stakeholders. The current crop of business owners and directors have grown up in the PC era and have been part of the enormous transformation technology has already imposed on the business world. They are already using IT to aid their businesses and can now go one step further with K3’s guide.

Jason Price, Head of Sales at K3 Managed Services said: “IT has never been more important or useful for businesses. Practices like social networking, mobile devices and cloud computing are making it easier to forget about technology itself and concentrate instead on the benefits it provides. This means improved potential for productivity and creativity making it more important than ever for businesses to embrace and effectively utilise IT practices. Our guide will help businesses understand their IT policies and practices and make sure MDs do not fall behind.”
