Brighter and the Nordic region's leading entertainment provider, Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group), and Abbott, have joined forces to raise awareness about diabetes and drive positive change in the Nordic region. The collaboration has taken shape through the founding of the BEAT Diabetes Foundation, of which Brighter is one of the co-founders and board member.

NENT Group, known for the streaming service Viaplay in Sweden, launched the annual Diabetes Gala 2017, which since then has raised over SEK 20 million for diabetes research, as a first step in this initiative. The BEAT Diabetes Foundation is now heading to the next level, becoming an independent entity. The foundation will continue to host the annual Diabetes Gala, which is paused in 2020 due to Covid-19, with the support of NENT Group.

On the official World Diabetes Day, November 14, NENT Group will instead premiere a new documentary film in which host Peter Jihde explores the impact of coronavirus on the everyday lives of people living with diabetes across the Nordic region.

This is an extraordinary joint effort, aimed at creating real change in people's everyday lives. We look forward to contributing knowledge and strength to support people in the Nordics living with diabetes and their loved ones. To fight to reduce risks and increase the quality of life,” says Petra Kaur, representative from Brighter's leadership team and board member of BEAT Diabetes Foundation.

As an independent entity, we can focus 100% on the fight against diabetes and maximise our impact. We particularly look forward to future Diabetes Galas; this year’s pause is the responsible thing to do and we will be back stronger with our first pan-Nordic event. Together with researchers, viewers and partners across the region and internationally, it’s time to beat diabetes once and for all,” says Helena Kolvik, BEAT Diabetes Foundation General Secretary.
