To celebrate Thanksgiving Day (Thursday 26th November 2009) traditional American pumpkin pie was served in the check-in area for customers travelling from Bristol International Airport to New York on Continental Airlines. Thanksgiving dates back to 1621, the year after the Puritans arrived in Massachusetts. After a rough winter, they turned for help to neighboring Indians, who taught them how to plant corn and other crops. The next bountiful harvest inspired the Pilgrims to give thanks by holding a feast. The Thanksgiving feast became a national tradition. To this day, Thanksgiving dinner almost always includes some of the foods served at the first feast: roast turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes and pumpkin pie. Americans across the world flock back to the US to celebrate the holiday at home, and those living in the South West can take advantage of Continental’s transatlantic service from Bristol International. Jacqui Mills, Public Relations Manager, Bristol International Airport, said: “We wanted to celebrate the traditional Thanksgiving Holiday with American customers returning home to family, and give UK customers visiting the US the opportunity of an early taste of the USA. “With over 399,000 customers using the New York flight since the service commenced, we wanted our customers to enjoy a little bit of the USA right here at the Airport.” Ends Picture shows: Christine Hamilton and Ted Wood from Backwell enjoy pumpkin pie with Bristol International Airport’s Lisa French en route to celebrate Thanksgiving with Ted’s son in Newtown, Pennsylvania For further information please contact: Jacqui Mills, Bristol International Airport, 01275 473615 or 07712 792915 James Gore, Bristol International Airport, 01275 475447 or 07717 896315
