Volunteers to help provide warm welcome at region's airport

A VIP joined the team at Bristol International today (26th May) as part of a new volunteering programme introduced at the airport. ‘Volunteer Information Patrons’ will help give a warm welcome to passengers flying into the South West by providing information on local hotels, B&Bs, tourist attractions and directions for onward travel. Jane Churches from Highridge is the first to don the VIP uniform, with more volunteers set to follow over the coming weeks. She commented: “I have always enjoyed working with people and, during a career break, found that this was something I really missed. The VIP role is a great way of meeting people while providing a valuable service to visitors to the region.” Alison Roberts, General Manager Terminal Operations at Bristol International Airport said: “We want to tap into the passion that many people feel for the airport and the South West. Bristol International is the gateway to the region for many visitors, and first impressions are important. We already strive to play our part by providing a friendly and efficient operation, spearheaded by our team of 12 customer service hosts. The VIPs will enhance this with their local knowledge and enthusiasm.” The number of inbound passengers at Bristol International has increased by 161 per cent to over 850,000 a year since 2003. This has been made possible by the increase in international scheduled routes, which now link Bristol with 65 locations worldwide, aided by the airport’s proximity to major events and tourist attractions such as Bath and the Glastonbury Festival. The voluntary role requires a commitment to a minimum of four hours a week, but comes with benefits including free travel on the Bristol International Flyer, a discount on food and drink at the airport, and free car parking. No specific experience is required and training will be provided. Applicants must be over the age of 18. Further information is available at www.bristolairport.com.
