    Why Modi met the Swedish prime minister in Gothenburg

    International summit meetings are usually held in Stockholm. But when India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, it took place in Gothenburg – one of Europe’s most important cities for the growing trade exchange between the EU and India.Since the financial crisis of 2009, the economy in the Gothenburg region has grown by more than 70%, placing Gothenburg among the very top tier in Europe.     Business sentiment remains steady - but sector gaps persist

    The economic tendency for Gothenburg region remains stable, though disparities between different parts of the economy are becoming more pronounced. Commerce and the hospitality sector are performing strongly while the situation for construction and manufacturing companies remains weak.The overall economic tendency indicator for the second quarter of 2026 was 101.1, a slight decline of 0.6 units from the previous quarter but still within the range of a normal situation.     Biotech company Verigraft secures major investment

    Verigraft, a deeptech company based in Gothenburg, has announced a capital injection of SEK 110 million (approx. EUR 10 million) from an existing long-term shareholder.The new investor funds will support the company as it prepares for Phase II and III clinical studies. “This financing marks an important step for Verigraft as we enter the next phase of our clinical development.
