Unique “mobility hotel” to accelerate green transport in Gothenburg's inner city
Sweden's first Mobility Hotel is now opening in Nordstan, one of Sweden’s largest shopping and business centres. The mobility hotel will facilitate the quiet and emission-free transport of goods and people in the inner city. It’s a large-scale and smart investment in combined micromobility and micrologistics. The city centre of Gothenburg will be more spacious, cleaner and even nicer.
A handful of companies are moving into the ground level of the parking garage, in the middle of the business centre. Two of them will open a joint service store for bikes, e-bikes and electric scooters, mopeds and cargo bikes.
Together, the companies offer services that make everyday transportation more sustainable and smooth for everyone who moves around in Gothenburg's inner city. Customers who want parcels delivered to their homes quickly and environmentally friendly, craftsmen who want to switch from vans to smaller, more flexible vehicles in the parking garage, and anyone who wants to cycle or use light e-vehicles.

“Gothenburg is a pioneer in Sweden, and possibly in all of Europe, with this investment in collaboration on the flow of goods and people, where development, risks and successes are shared between all parties. Here we are gearing up with EU funding to achieve a long-term effect," says Suzanne Green, project manager at the City of Gothenburg's Urban Environment Department.
The Mobility Hotel is perfectly located with direct connection to Nordstan's underground loading street for larger vehicles. It enables efficient reloading for last-mile delivery of goods via bicycle and light electric vehicles in central Gothenburg.
"The Mobility Hotel's services will be a great asset for all our tenants, but also for other actors in the inner city,” says Helena Lindqvist, CEO of Nordstan.
Every day, 70,000 people pass through Nordstan, located adjacent to the central station and Brunnsparken, a key public transport hub. 6,000 people have their workplace in the business centre.
“There is a potential for large impact on inner city transportation”, says Anastazia Kronberg, process manager at Business Region Gothenburg.
These services are now available
In the store premises, Bike Fixx and Urbancorner will sell and service bicycles, electric bicycles, electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles. Next door, in the car park, GoCiklo offers electric mopeds and quick battery swaps, used by Foodora among others. There are also the bicycle transport company Pling, offering green last-mile-delivery, and the wholesaler Ahlsells with a small, unmanned warehouse for craftsmen. In addition, there are a number of transport bikes that the City of Gothenburg lends to craft and service companies.

In addition to combining personal mobility and micrologistics in the same place, we now give craftsmen and service companies good opportunities to use micromobility and bicycles to perform their services. We also build bridges between mobility companies, the city, retail and the real estate industry," says Anastazia Kronberg, process manager at Business Region Gothenburg.

More about the Mobility Hotel
The vision behind the Mobility Hotel is to enable the necessary transition to more sustainable transport and sustainable urban development. According to the City of Gothenburg's environment and climate program, motorized traffic in the city must be reduced by 25 percent by 2030.
The Mobility Hotel in Nordstan is the result of collaboration between the Urban Environment Administration, Business Region Göteborg and Nordstan's business centre. The following companies are there now: Pling, BikeFixx, Urbancorner, Ahlsell and GoCiklo.
The investment in the Mobility Hotel in Nordstan is co-financed through the EU project MOVE21, which is an innovation project that aims to transform European cities into smart nodes for smart, clean and efficient mobility and logistics.
