Sahlgrenska Science Park and Business Region Göteborg have taken leading roles in the prestigious PRECISEU project, in collaboration with Region Västra Götaland and Sahlgrenska University Hospital. This European initiative aims to connect innovation ecosystems across Europe to efficiently advance towards truly personalized healthcare.

The PRECISEU project is designed to transfer best practices and solutions across regions, scaling up deep-tech healthcare innovations centered on advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and health data.

This five-year project is funded with a total of 22.7 million euros, half of which comes from the Horizon Europe initiative. It brings together regional authorities, academic institutions, NGOs, and innovation players. PRECISEU engages innovators, scientists and entrepreneurs in participating countries including Spain, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

Sahlgrenska Science Park and Business Region Göteborg will play key roles in the PRECISEU project and are the only Nordic participants to receive Horizon Europe funding.

Sahlgrenska Science Park will lead the work on developing market access, industry growth, and patient accessibility in precision medicine.

Cecilia Edebo, CEO of Sahlgrenska Science Park, says: "We are proud to represent Sweden and actively contribute to this strategically important international project. Developing a roadmap and collaboration model to advance precision medicine at the European level places us at the forefront of shaping the future of healthcare.”

Business Region Göteborg will be a partner in the work to map existing ATMP hubs, capacities and technology owners.

Patrik Andersson, CEO of Business Region Göteborg, says: "Engaging in this consortium aligns perfectly with our vision to foster a dynamic and innovative business environment in West Sweden. The project's focus on advanced therapies and health data integration is particularly exciting and promising for our region. This initiative alongside the establishment of CCRM Nordic in Gothenburg further solidifies Gothenburg's position as a leading hub for life science and health innovation."

Region Västra Götaland, through its regional development initiatives, will co-finance Sahlgrenska Science Park’s commitments in PRECISEU.

Madeleine Jonsson, Chairperson of the Environment and Regional Development Committee at Region Västra Götaland, says: “Participating in the PRECISEU project helps provide our patients with access to innovative healthcare with precision diagnostics and personalized therapies. This collaboration not only strengthens our regional capacity but also ensures we contribute meaningfully to the future of precision medicine across Europe.”

Sahlgrenska University Hospital will be an important collaboration partner.

Boubou Hallberg, CEO for Sahlgrenska University Hospital, says:  “Through its collaborative approach and by harnessing the strengths of diverse partners, the PRECISEU project promises significant advancements to transform healthcare, improve patient outcomes and create a sustainable healthcare ecosystem."
