TIER and Cabonline are working together to reduce alcohol in traffic

Anyone considering riding an electric scooter or electric bike home from the pub is to be offered a taxi instead. This initiative is a nationwide cooperation between TIER Mobility and Cabonline Group to reduce alcohol amongst road users. The common goal is for road users to make the right choice and contribute to increased traffic safety.

  • It is important for us to be able to contribute to reducing alcohol amongst road users and increase traffic safety as a result. We are, therefore, proud to begin this cooperation with TIER Mobility, whereby we are encouraging people to make safe and smart choices, says Kalle Boumedienne, Deputy CEO, Cabonline Group.

TIER and Cabonline want to highlight the importance of using the right means of transport, at the right time, and in the right situation. Between 10pm and 5am from Thursdays to Sundays, all TIER users will be asked if they have consumed alcohol – if they respond "yes", they will be referred to Cabonline and clearly instructed to take a taxi home.

  • We are delighted to be starting this cooperation with Cabonline. They are the Nordic region's leading provider of taxi services and also work systematically with both traffic safety and sustainability. Together, we want to encourage users to travel more safely and with greater responsibility in the evenings and weekends, says August Svedenstedt, Sweden Country Manager at TIER Mobility Sweden.

The feature will make it easier to make the right choice and, as such, choose a taxi as the safer option for getting home. Almost all road users in Sweden believe that alcohol and/or drugs and being in traffic do not belong together. Yet, thousands of people operate vehicles under the influence every day on our roads, regardless of the mode of transport. More than one in three young drivers killed in traffic accidents have alcohol in their blood.

From 2020 to 2021, the number of journeys made on shared electric scooters in Sweden increased from just over 10.3 million to over 26 million, with almost 48 million kilometers travelled. Although the statistics for electric scooters show that the number of accidents are low and are continuing to fall, from an accident risk of 0.005 per cent per km to 0.004 per cent per kilometer travelled, it is important to work preemptively to avoid future accidents.[1]

  • The safety of our users, other road users, and the general public is our top priority, and we are constantly striving to develop new ways of contributing to improved road safety. We are applying our experience and knowledge from over 200 cities in 20 countries, says August Svedenstedt, Sweden Country Manager at TIER Mobility.

The initiative presented today is the first step in a long-term cooperation. The companies want to jointly expand access to mobility and increase the sustainability of short journeys. It is also in line with the national sustainable travel goals and contributes to achieving the global sustainability goals set by

For Cabonline, it is important to be able to contribute to increased mobility and more sustainable travel in the Nordic region and we believe that people being able to make sustainable choices for their travel is crucial for the future, says Kalle Boumedienne, Deputy CEO, Cabonline Group.
