CANDLEWICK PRESS ACQUIRES NEW PICTURE BOOK FROM AWARD-WINNING TEAM MAC BARNETT AND JON KLASSEN
The Wolf, the Duck, and the Mouse to Publish October 2017
Somerville, MA – Best-selling picture book creators Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen will debut a stand-alone picture book in fall 2017, Candlewick Press announced today jointly with the publishers of the Walker Books Group worldwide. The Wolf, the Duck, and the Mouse will release in the U.S. on October 10, 2017. With multiple New York Times bestsellers between them and awards including a Caldecott Medal, two Caldecott Honors, a Kate Greenaway Medal, a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, three E.B. White Read Aloud Awards, the Charlotte Zolotow Award, and many more, Barnett and Klassen have become one of the most dynamic duos in children’s literature.
In this unparalleled new comedy, a woeful mouse is swallowed by a wolf and quickly learns he is not alone. A duck has already set up a lovely little home, rife with delicious food and elegant table settings, courtesy of the wolf’s unchecked gluttony. This charming story offers the signature wit and whimsy that readers of all ages have come to expect from Barnett and Klassen. World rights to The Wolf, the Duck, and the Mouse were acquired by Liz Bicknell, Candlewick’s executive editorial director and associate publisher, from Steven Malk of Writers House. The book will be edited by Bicknell and designed by executive art director Ann Stott.
Of this new picture book, Bicknell says, “We all know about Jonah and the whale and the old woman who swallowed a fly, but here comes a fresh offering in the pantheon of ‘swallowed but doing just fine’ stories: a simple delectable feast, perfect for storytime.”
