Connecting best-selling childrens author and Judy Moody creator Megan McDonald with classrooms across the country via free live webcast

February 6, 2017, Somerville, MA -- Leading independent childrens publisher Candlewick Press is excited to announce a national schools webcast that will bring wildly popular childrens author Megan McDonald into classrooms across the country during Children's Book Week this year. On Wednesday, May 3, at 1 p.m. eastern time, McDonald will virtually visit schools to discuss her best-selling books, including the Judy Moody and Stink series, and to inspire students to read, write, and express their own creative talents through storytelling.

Meeting a famous or beloved author or illustrator can ignite an enthusiasm for reading in even the most reluctant readers, but access to successful childrens authors for classroom visits and workshops can be a financial and scheduling challenge for many school districts. Candlewick and McDonald will be offering this opportunity to connect free of charge. Teachers and librarians can sign up via an online registration form and will only need a high-speed Internet connection to experience and participate in the presentation. Questions for the author will be solicited in advance of the event and live via Twitter that day. Candlewick will offer links to a comprehensive list of curriculum guides and STEM classroom resources that tie into the books for educators' lesson and activity planning.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer this kind of virtual author visit with Megan McDonald to thousands of elementary school students and fans this spring. Interacting with a real-life author, someone they see represented on their library shelves every day, can be hugely inspiring for young kids and feed their appetite and appreciation for great stories," said Kathleen Rourke, executive director of educational sales and marketing. "Megan, a former librarian herself and a recent spokesperson for National School Library Month, is an expert at creating humorous and engaging books for kids that really inject fun into reading."
