Honorary prize awarded to Lars Elfgaard
The 2011 Gunnar Rylander Honorary Prize for the year’s voluntary leader within Swedish youth tennis has been awarded to Lars Elfgaard, Bankeryd Tennis Club.
The prize is awarded to a person who, over a long period of time, has worked for, and made extraordinary efforts to promote and develop, Swedish youth tennis. The prize, worth SEK 50,000, goes to the prizewinner’s tennis club in support of the club's youth activities.
The jury's award citation is worded as follows:
With a burning spirit for Swedish youth tennis and as a strong advocate of ethics and morals, over many decades Lars Elfgaard has enriched both Bankeryd Tennis Club and the Swedish Tennis Association with his knowledge and involvement. Lars’ commanding presence and natural leadership qualities have encouraged both adults and children to become involved in the activities.
The prize will be awarded on 16 July at the centre court in Båstad during Skistar Swedish Open.
The jury consists of: Gunnar Rylander (founder of Catella), Magnus Norman, (Sports Manager, Good to Great), Henrik Källén (General Secretary, Swedish Tennis Association), Martin Gerge-Nilsson, (Marketing Manager, Swedish Tennis Association), and Stefhan Klang, (CEO, Catella Fondförvaltning AB).
