DABmotion welcome digital developments

Digital radio specialists Celsus have welcomed the recent raft of positive news from Digital Radio UK (DRUK) on the UK’s digital radio roll out.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) recently announced DAB fitment rates had reached 55% on new UK cars in April 2014, marking a stellar rise from a lowly 3.7% in April 2010.

The consumer ‘Tick Mark’ is on target to appear before the end of 2014 whilst DRUK have plans to mail 35 million motorists in conjunction with DVLA, and place posters in MOT stations, to raise awareness of the ways to convert in car radio to digital.

The infrastructure backbone for UK DAB continues to strengthen too; 164 new national transmitters are being installed to raise national coverage to FM levels within 2 years whilst 200 more local transmitters will bring DAB to 3.7m more homes and over 4,000 miles of road.

“Summer’s the best time of all to be converting cars to DAB against the backdrop of all this good news,” said Mark Baker, Celsus Marketing Director. “We hear time and again that motorists are still not aware of DAB retrofit options or the quality of today’s coverage.

“People get DAB in car for the listening choices. Whether it’s test match cricket, extended coverage of the sporting events or all this summer’s music festivals, you can be certain DAB radio has it all completely covered.”

Celsus Managing Director Paul Baker added: “We’re delighted to see the traction digital radio is now achieving. This reflects our own experiences with DABmotion.

“DRUK tell us both that most main dealers and car audio retailers can now convert cars to DAB and also that they want posters in MOT stations – the challenge for us now is to motivate the independent motor factors and garages to go and get their slice of this market.

“The message from us is that we can bring absolutely everything garages need. It starts with our IMI accredited training. We can deliver this on garage site from as little as half a day and our promise is simple; anyone completing a DABmotion training course will be able to fit working DAB radio in any car.”

DABmotion is a leading brand of in-car digital radio retrofit solutions. The DAB1001 kit brings DAB to any car by using the latest FM modulation techniques, linked with AFC, to decode digital radio and converts this into an FM signal that is transmitted directly to the original car radio wirelessly.

The DABmotion antenna included with the DAB1001 kit can be fitted to either the front or rear window of a vehicle. The DABmotion interface can be located in the glove box, behind the vehicle dashboard, or even in the rear of the vehicle. It may be necessary to consult a qualified vehicle installer about connections, suitable location for the interface or antenna position.
